![]() For the ultimate slice of rural New Zealand you can’t go past Backblocks Foods at 244 Tanners Point Road, Tanners Point. Eight kilometres north of Katikati and two kilometres off SHWY 2 in the sleepy seaside village of Tanners Point, the picturesque setting overlooks the ever changing northern Tauranga harbour. Sit on the deck with a complimentary glass of wine or coffee and sample the luxury handmade patés, dips and terrines made from pure New Zealand game meats and wild food.All Backblocks food is handmade in small batches using the finest local ingredients without artificial preservatives, colours or flavours and has been laboratory tested to NZFSA standards for your safety.Tastings include such tasty treats as wild venison and whisky paté, wild rabbit, prune and port paté, smoked kahawai paté with lemon and capers, smoked mussel paté and avocado kawakawa aioli and are served with breads. Afterwards you can walk it off on the bush trail around the Tanners Point peninsula (20 mins) where you can glimpse the water through the pohutukawas & listen to the native birdsong. Or you could borrow one of our hand lines and have a go at catching your own Kahawai from the jetty (100 metres away). Tastings are available Fridays from September 2011 10am – last tasting 3pm |
